WEDA LD1 - The automatic larvae dispenser

The automatic larvae dispenser

Insect farming is undergoing continuous change, driven by increasing demands on tech- nology, efficiency and sustainability. Operators of insect breeding systems are therefore constantly looking for innovative solutions that make operation more efficient and cost-effective. WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp offers such a solution with its new LD1 larvae dispenser. While very small larvae were previously given manually into feed boxes, LD1 now enables automated dosing that is precise to the gram.

Challenges of the previous larvae dosing system

Previously, young larvae had to be dosed manually into the feed boxes, which was time-consuming and imprecise. The number of dosed, cost-intensive young larvae varied with each dosing process. This not only led to inefficient processes and higher larval costs, but also to an increased suscep- tibility to errors in the feeding process. In order to meet the increasing requirements, an automated solution was needed that was both accurate and efficient.

The solution: LD1 larvae dispenser

The LD1 larvae dispenser automates the process of larvae dosage and integrates seamlessly into existing feeding systems. Thanks to the connection to the WEDA computer system, the young larvae can be added to the feed that was previously dosed into the boxes with precision to the gram.

How the LD1 larvae dispenser works:

1. Automated dosing:
The young larvae are automatically and precisely added to the feed dosing system.

2. Integration into the existing process:
The LD1 larvae doser closes the cycle of efficient insect breeding. The feed pulp is first dosed into the boxes to the exact gram using the WEDA “Intrix” dosing station. The DLG medal-winning dry dosing system “Dry.Sec” then adds dry material and, in the final step, the young larvae are dosed onto the feed substrate.

3. Connection to the WEDA computer system
This enables precise control and monitor- ing of the entire process, which leads to greater efficiency and reliability.

The advantages of the LD1 larvae dispenser:

  • Ideal addition to the existing process: The LD1 integrates seamlessly into existing feeding systems and closes the insect breeding cycle.

  • Saving of employee time: Manual dosing of the young larvae is no longer necessary, saving valua- ble working time.

  • Precise dosage: The young larvae are dosed to the exact gram, which results in consistent and efficient feeding.

  • Automatic process control: By connecting to the WEDA computer system, the entire feeding pro- cess is automated and monitored.
